Earlier today Ontario premier Doug Ford announced that the province will go into a "grey zone" shutdown on December 24th, which will last for 28 days in southern Ontario and 14 days in Northern Ontario. The shutdown is essentially a return to the restrictions put in place last March during the initial outbreak of COVID-19 in Ontario.

This news dovetails on the announcement from the NHL this past weekend that a 56 game season will begin on January 13th, featuring an all-Canadian division. When asked how the lockdown will affect games in the region, and specifically what the lockdown means for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators, Ford admitted that no decision has been made regarding those concerns.

Suffice it to say that this will put just a wee bit of a wrench into the NHL's return to play plans and that's saying nothing for the strict travel protocols in place in British Columbia. Hmmm... Edmonton bubble anybody?
