While fans are awaiting roster changes to come to Edmonton in order to make the Oilers a stronger contender in the coming seasons, it sounds like changes will be coming to the jerseys for now.

According to TSN’s Tom Gazzola, a self-admitted jersey geek, the Oilers are expected to “to make the navy uniform the team’s primary home look while sprinkling in some games using the orange next season.”

“A return to royal blue could come after, perhaps with a modernized look. Haven’t heard anything on reverse retros,” the TSN host explained in his tweet.

The reason why Gazzola might not have heard anything on the retro jerseys comes from the fact that Oilers’ players reportedly disliked it a lot. Team insider Jason Gregor pointed it out directly to Gazzola when he posted the information on upcoming changes.

“The players didn’t like the reverse retros which is why they only wore them twice last season. I’d be surprised we see them very often.”

Players weren’t the only ones to dislike the reserve retro jerseys that made an appearance last season. Fans were also quick to criticize the look and colours of the uniform.

The Colorado Avalanche’s Quebec Nordiques tribute was crown the winner of the fans’ favourite reverse retro jerseys, getting over a quarter of the 448 votes (28.57%); the  Los Angeles Kings’ gold and purple crown jerseys  (10.49%); the Calgary Flames’ fire-breathing horse design  6.03%); and the Minnesota Stars’ North Stars tribute (6.03%). The Washington Capitals placed fifth, also tied the Anaheim Ducks’ cartoon-y Mighty Ducks sweaters and the Florida Panthers’1996 Stanley Cup Final inspired jerseys.

We bet the Oilers’ jersey was in the least favourite: especially if the players were the first ones to dislike it.

Let’s hope the changes for the 2021-22 season look good on the player - whoever they may be as GM Ken Holland focuses on the team and changes to make in his lineup.
