They say turnabout is fair play.

The Edmonton Oilers have gone down a goaltender on Saturday after relatively inexperienced netminder Troy Grosenick was picked up off of waivers. Claiming Grosenick were the Los Angeles Kings which is quite humorous when you consider that the Oilers only got him in the first place when the Kings themselves were forced to place Grosenick on waivers earlier this season.

Unfortunately that is no doubt considerably less enjoyable an experience for Grosenick himself who now finds himself regularly traveling between Canada and the United States, no doubt being subjected to a quarantine process each time he has had to do so thus far.

It seems unlikely that Grosenick's troubles have come to an end either, especially not when you consider the special rules the National Hockey League has put in place for this season. With each team in the league being forced to carry 3 goaltenders at all times there will no doubt continue to be a significant goaltending carousel for guys that would normally fill that 3rd or potentially even 4th spot on your roster. Grosenick is one of those players this season so he may be in for a long campaign.

There is a belief that veteran goaltender Mike Smith is set to step back into the lineup after suffering an injury earlier in the regular season, which would explain why the Oilers made the decision to waive Grosenick on Friday. No doubt the team knew he would be claimed, but if Smith is set to rejoin the lineup that will prove to be a positive for the Oilers, assuming everyone remains healthy.

The Oilers will next hit the ice on Saturday night for the NHL's late game. They will be taking on the Calgary Flames in what will no doubt prove to be another exciting Battle of Alberta.

For those of you whom are interested, Winnipeg Jets forward Dominic Toninato was the only other player waived on Friday and he was not claimed today. No teams in the NHL placed any players on waivers today so it stands to reason that there will be no claims made on Sunday.
