The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers are set to square off this evening in what is likely to be the most important game of the regular season thus far for both teams. Both are currently sitting at the top of the National Hockey League's North Division with 44 points each, although the Oilers have played in 1 more game than the Leafs thus far, and tonight's game will decide who takes sole possession of first place in that division.

Unsurprisingly given the stakes in this one both teams will be making some key adjustments heading into the contest, with the Leafs shuffling their lines a little and with the Oilers making a straight up swap in their lineup.

In the case of the Maple Leafs they will be returning to some familiar lineup combinations with veteran forward Joe Thornton once again joining Leafs' star forwards Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner on the team's top line. Here is a look at how all 4 lines will break down for tonight's game:

Nylander-Tavares-Simmonds

Mikheyev-Engvall-Hyman

Galchenyuk-Kerfoot-Spezza

The Leafs also made a roster move with Nick Robertson returning to the taxi squad following his injury, however Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe indicated on Saturday that Robertson would still need some time before being ready to return in an actual game situation. This means there is no chance of this move impacting tonight's game.

On the other side of the coin however the Oilers will feel the impact of their roster move, with forward Kailer Yamamoto returning to the lineup after dealing with an injury of his own. Yamamoto will play alongside forwards Dominik Kahun and Ryan Nugent Hopkins this evening on the team's second line after missing 2 games with an upper body injury. Here is how all 4 lines will break down for the Oilers ahead of tonight's game.

Archibald-Haas-Kassian

Shore-Khaira-Chiasson

As for the goaltenders on either side of this matchup it should come as no surprise that in the case of the Toronto Maple Leafs it will be the red hot, and as of yet undefeated, Jack Campbell that will get the start. As for the Oilers, head coach David Tippett announced on Saturday that he would be giving veteran netminder Mike Smith the net tonight against the Maple Leafs.
