Oilers’ Koskinen flips out after allowing 4 goals on 4 shots in humiliating tantrum

Mikko Koskinen doesn’t want to remember last night. With the Edmonton Oilers hoping to give veteran goalie Mike Smith a night off in the last stretch ahead of the postseason, Koskinen got the start against the Vancouver Canucks. After all, the Canucks had lost six straight games ahead of Thursday’s contest…

But they fought back with a vengeance against the Oilers and Koskinen’s night was short, lasting just 12 minutes and 22 seconds as he allowed four goals on four shots before being benched.

And Koskinen made quite the exit. Following the fourth goal, he took his stick, turned around and smashed it three times before ultimately snapping it. He then headed to the bench in shame.

Unfortunately for Koskinen, the humiliation didn’t stop there as it was pointed out later on that he became the third goalie since 1979 to not make a save on the first four shots of a game.

Ouch.

Well, we have to say that the 2021 season hasn’t been Koskinen’s finest. Entering Thursday’s game, he had posted a .905 save percentage and 2.99 goals-against-average, both marking his lowest totals since he was a member of the New York Islanders in 2010-11.

We can understand his frustration…
