Oilers have reportedly found the goalie they’ll target on trade market!

There is no doubt that the Edmonton Oilers are in dire need of a top goaltender if they want to become the top contender they claimed they can be.

With captain Connor McDavid and star forward Leon Draisaitl in tow, the team could be deadly with a strong netminder in between the pipes. It seems clear that aging Mike Smith or Mikko Koskinen aren’t doing the trick to allow the Oilers to push into the postseason and compete for a Stanley Cup.

Elliotte Friedman believes that general manager Ken Holland has targeted the goalie he would love to trade for in the coming months and shared it in his latest 31 Thoughts column on Sportsnet:

“It might not be something that could happen until the off-season, but Elvis Merzlikins is the kind of goalie who makes sense long-term for Edmonton.”

As Friedman points out, this move could only take place later on in the calendar, even in the summer, however, you bet this would be a great one for the Oilers.

Merzlikins, who was activated from injured reserve Monday, was solid before his absence. Prior to this injury, Merzlikins was solid with a .917 save percentage and a 3-3-1 record.
