In case you missed it earlier today in all the shuffle of New York Rangers defenceman Tony DeAngelo clearing waivers, there was another surprising name hitting the waiver wire: Edmonton Oilers forward Alex Chiasson.

The 30 year Chiasson is in the final year of a deal that pays him $2.15 million.

Oilers insider Mark Spector of Sportsnet believes that Chiasson may be claimed on waivers saying, “Chiasson has only this season remaining with an AAV of $2.15M. Does OTT consider claiming a veteran Francophone RW who has 525 GP and won a Cup?”

But frankly... I'm not so sure. I don't see too many teams linking up for a depth player on a $2+ million deal. It seems that a LOT of experts and analysts out there figure the Ottawa Senators will take on anything that comes across the waiver wire. I'm not so sure... but I'd love to be wrong. The fact of the matter is that Chiasson is an effective player and I'd love to see him stay up in the big league.
