OHL season officially shelved as positive cases spike in Ontario

I think at this point we can expect the league to be cancelled entirely. Thoughts?

This just in, the OHL season has been "shelved" until further notice due to a record setting outbreak of COVID-19 cases in Ontario.

In a press conference earlier today, Ontario's Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries Lisa MacLeod made the announcement and did not give any indication as to when the league may resume play.

"The ground has shifted significantly," said MacLeod. She added that it would be "irresponsible" to send young athletes out there given the current health situation, and that sign-off would be required from medical officers of health.

"We will not be putting young athletes at risk," MacLeod said, leaving the door open to a season once health levels are appropriate. She did not specify what health levels the province would need to see to resume play for the OHL season, which typically begins in October.

The OHL had hoped to complete a 24 game regular season in 2020-21, but this recent surge in Ontario has made that impossible. At this point, don't be surprised if the league shuts its doors until next October.
