NHL won't let Koskinen play, Oilers forced to use emergency call up

This just in, the Edmonton Oilers have used an emergency recall on goaltender Dylan Wells after it was determined that goaltender Mikko Koskinen will not be allowed to play as a precautionary measure.

It's not yet known if Koskinen has tested positive for COVID-19, but it's worth noting that Oilers forward Jesse Puljujarvi was added to the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list earlier today. We're going to make assumptions here because the NHL won't confirm or deny test results, but it's believed that Puljujarvi tested positive, which necessitated a re-testing of the entire Oilers roster before their game tonight against the Montreal Canadiens. The NHL then postponed the start time of tonight's game by one hour in order for to confirm COVID-19 test results.

This comes just a day after the NHL faced severe fan backlash for allowing the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks to play on Tuesday evening, despite the fact that all of the players hadn't had their daily test results confirmed. As luck would have it, Golden Knights forward Tomas Nosek's test results came back during the 2nd period of that game and sure enough he tested positive. In effect, the NHL rolled the dice on Nosek and they lost. Tonight's rescheduling is clearly an attempt to address further situations like this.

Incidentally, Philadelphia Flyers forwards Jakub Voracek and Morgan Frost have also been added to the list along with New York Rangers forward Filip Chytil and Florida Panthers forward Anthony Duclair.
