NHL “to re-draw” if Coyotes win the Draft lottery!

Back in August 2020, the Arizona Coyotes were punished by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman after the team “acknowledged that it had violated the Policy by conducting physical testing on 2020 draft-eligible players prior to the Combine.” Therefore, the Coyotes forfeited their 2020 second-round pick and will have ti forfeit their 2021 first-round pick.

However, with the Coyotes expected to take part in the NHL Draft lottery coming up in June, a strange scenario could take place at the No. 1 ball comes up. According to Frank Seravalli, the NHL plans to keep the Coyotes’ odds wherever they land in that same position. Which could make things very interesting if Arizona wins the lottery. Here is how Seravalli explained it on last night’s edition of Insider Trading on TSN: 

“The other question mark is what happens with the Arizona Coyotes, who are now likely to miss the playoffs and their draft pick in terms of the lottery because they forfeited that of course with the penalty with the improper testing of prospects scandal that happened last year. So, moving forward, the league plans to keep the Coyotes’ odds wherever they land in that same position. They’re not going to take those odds and redistribute them to other teams. But if the Coyotes’ pick were to come up as the winner, well, then of course the NHL would re-draw. So, something to keep in mind as we get closer. The official odds haven’t been passed out yet – not publicly – but also not to teams as well. So we’re waiting to see what those official odds are.”

We can speak for you, but wouldn’t it be great to see the Coyotes win the lottery and get a re-draw! That would make the 2021 season as crazy as it could get!
