Safe to say, this just was not a good weekend in the world of hockey.  We lost three young teenage hockey players following a vehicular crash in British Columbia, former New York Rangers Hall of Fame forward Rod Gilbert passed away, and today, we woke up to the news that former Boston Bruins forward Jimmy Hayes passed away suddenly at the young age of 31.

So far, there's been no official cause of death listed, though police don't consider it a suspicious situation.

Shortly after the sad news was made public, several NHL clubs expressed their sadness and condolences on Twitter, including the teams that Hayes suited up for.

"We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Jimmy Hayes," wrote the Chicago Blackhawks.

His warm personality made an immediate impact in the locker room and with our fans. We’re proud of the memories he made in Chicago, including making his NHL debut in 2011. Sending our thoughts and prayers to his familyRed heart"

"The Boston Bruins are heartbroken by the passing of Dorchester native and former Bruin Jimmy Hayes. Our thoughts are with his wife Kristen, his sons Beau and Mac, and the entire Hayes family during this very difficult time."

"We are thinking of the Hayes family and friends during this difficult time.

His infectious personality and easygoing nature were contagious to all who spent time with him. He had a tremendous ability to make everyone feel welcome.

You will be missed, Jimmy. Black heartRed heart"
