This just in, the NHL has confirmed that the Clarence Campbell Bowl and the Prince of Wales Trophy, usually awarded to the Western Conference Champions and Eastern Conference Champions respectively, will not be awarded in 2021.

"We're not handing them out," NHL Chief Content Officer Steve Mayer told ESPN on Friday.

With the NHL forced to re-align divisions for the shortened 2021 campaign, there are effectively no conferences this season and therefore no Conference Champions. As a result, it seems foolish to hand out the Conference Championships trophies.

"There are going to be things we always will remember about this season, and one of them is that we never handed the [conference] trophies out," Mayer said.

To be honest, there's so much change this season that I'm not sure I'm going to look back on the conference championship trophies at all. It's just another faint reminder that the world simply isn't what it used to be. Here's hoping that we get some sense of normalcy, both in the NHL and in the world at large, next hockey season.
