NHL announces corporate sponsored re-naming of the league's new divisions

Call me crazy but I'm not too keen on hearing “The Honda Division” and “The Scotiabank Division”.

This just in, the NHL has announced that its re-aligned divisional structure for the 2021 NHL season will bear corporate sponsors.

Introducing the Honda Division, Discovery Division, MassMutual Division and Scotiabank Division:

From the NHL's PR Department:

NEW YORK & TORONTO - The National Hockey League (NHL®), in partnership with Discover, Honda, MassMutual and Scotiabank today announced the official division names for the 2020-21 season: Scotia NHL® North Division, Honda NHL® West Division, Discover NHL® Central Division and the MassMutual NHL® East Division.
Each team in the MassMutual NHL® East Division, Discover NHL® Central Division and Honda NHL® West Division will play every other team in its division eight times while each team in the Scotia NHL® North Division will play every other team in its division nine or 10 times, to minimize team travel as much as possible.

Like the ads on helmets introduced this season, the NHL is using new and innovative ways to generate revenue so I can understand the reasoning behind divisional sponsors. Call me old school though, but I just don't like it. There are ads on the ice, ads on the boards, ads every 5 minutes of the game, ads for 15 minutes in between periods... enough already. Thankfully though, according to a report from ESPN insider Greg Wyshynski, this appears to be a temporary measure for this season only.

Check it out:

Hmmmm... you really think the NHL is going to stop accepting checks for naming rights just because? I'll believe it when I see it...

Thoughts?
