New Jersey Devils sign trio of players to tryout contracts, including Jimmy Vesey

Jimmy Vesey, a Boston native and the Hobey Baker Award winner as the top college hockey player in the country with Harvard, was a highly coveted player when he decided to spurn his hometown Bruins and instead sign with the New York Rangers. It wasn't the only team that he said "thanks but no thanks to", as he opted not to sign with the Buffalo Sabres whom his rights were traded to by the Nashville Predators after being drafted in 2012. 

However, his NHL career has been plagued by inconsistency, and he's bounced around from Manhattan back to Buffalo. He's since suited up for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and after being waived, the Vancouver Canucks. And now, he's got a chance to make an impression for a new deal with a new franchise. 

The New Jersey Devils have signed Vesey to a tryout contract. Additionally, the Devils have also signed center Mark Jankowski and defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon to tryout deals. 

In 354 career games, Vesey has tallied 64 goals and 56 assists. 

Jankowski, who was drafted by the Calgary Flames with the 21st overall selection in the 2012 NHL draft, played last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins and scored four goals with seven assists. He's scored 40 goals and 35 assists in 235 regular-season games.

Meanwhile, Wotherspoon has five assists in 30 career NHL games over four seasons, and has spent the bulk of his professional career playing in the American Hockey League with Stockton, San Antonio and Lehigh Valley.
