New enticing offer on the table for Taylor Hall!

Taylor Hall might have found a way to have a different offseason than last year’s. Last summer, the veteran forward agreed to a on a one-year, $8 million deal with the Buffalo Sabres as an unrestricted free agent. The Sabres ended up doing poorly and were big seller at the trade deadline, moving Hall to the Boston Bruins, where he found immediate success.

After the Bruins were ousted from the postseason, Hall made it clear that he would love to stay in Boston, but there had been conflicting reports on how close he and the Bruins were to an extension. Last week, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman believed that Hall will go to market this offseason, however, it is now reported that a new offer will be presented to Hall by general manager Don Sweeney.

On Tuesday night, Darren Dreger reported on Insider Trading on TSN that things were indeed moving in the right direction for both camps.

“Ongoing negotiations between the Boston Bruins and veteran forward Taylor Hall. Look, Taylor Hall wants to stay with the Bruins, he feels like he’s a real good fit there, he wants to give them a chance to get a deal done until July 28 when the free agent window opens entirely. So work to be done there, but there is at least some optimism between the two sides.”

Then this morning, Frank Seravalli has pointed out that the Bruins might have just presented a new offer to Hall to get him off the free market and back into their roster.

“Expectation is Hall will indeed remain in Boston after the signing moratorium is lifted. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a deal in the 4 years x $6 million neighborhood.”

Hall has 228 goals and 596 points in 680 career games since being selected first overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2010 NHL Draft. This was just his third time reaching the postseason in his 11-year NHL career this season.

The Bruins probably realized that Hall would get a lot of interest on the free agency market, and might have cringed when they heard the Toronto Maple Leafs were interested in getting into the mix. The Leafs were recently amongst the teams that were looking at the forward. GM Kyle Dubas can be quite convincing with free agents looking to play for a contender and Hall, a Canadian-born player, might be tempted to play up North with a Cup-contending team.

Interesting developments ahead of July 28th as fans are focused in today on the Seattle Kraken’s expansion draft.
