New contract for Alex Galchenyuk!
Zuma Press

Earlier in September, the Arizona Coyotes signed Galchenyuk to a professional tryout contract. Late on Tuesday night, he earned his spot on the roster. Darren Dreger reported late last night that the Coyotes signed the veteran forward to a one-year, $750,000 contract.

The veteran forward is coming off a one-year, $1.050 million deal, after tallying five goals and 13 points in 34 games this past season split between the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs. He had one goal and three assists in seven playoff games in 2020-21.

Galchenyuk started his NHL career with the Canadiens, where he played spent the first six years after the Habs selected him third overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Then, he was moved to the Coyotes in Arizona, before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and then the Minnesota Wild. He went on to sign as a free agent in the 2020 offseason with the Ottawa Senators, to be traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, who never dressed him for a game.

He came to Toronto with a new attitude and it was surprising to see training camps starting off with Galchenyuk still without a deal.

This will be Galchenyuk’s second stint with the Coyotes. He had previously played for them during the 2018-19 season when he scored 19 goals and 41 points in 72 games.
