More players, including vulnerable Oskar Lindblom, added to protocol list

The National Hockey League keeps sharing the names of players who are “unavailable” to the club (to practice, travel or play in games) due to COVID protocols.

On Friday, more names were added to the list: Detroit’s Calvin Pickard, Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos, Arizona’s John Hayden and Philadelphia’s Scott Laughton and Oskar Lindblom.

Pickard, Stamkos and Hayden are the first case on their respective roster. In Philadelphia, Justin Braun, Morgan Frost, Claude Giroux and Travis Sanheim were already on it.

We are especially worried for Lindblom, who returned to action this past summer during the postseason after getting treated for cancer. He is believed to be more vulnerable to COVID-19 after fighting hard to recover from Ewing’s sarcoma, a cancerous tumor that grows in the bones or in the tissue around bones.

However, such “COVID Protocol Related Absences” can be the result of a number of factors including, among others: (1) an initial positive test which remains unconfirmed until confirmatory testing is completed pursuant to the Positive Test Protocol; (2) mandated isolation for symptomatic individuals pursuant to the Positive Test Protocol; (3) required quarantine as a high-risk close contact in accordance with the Positive Test Protocol; (4) isolation based on a confirmed positive test result and/or; (5) quarantine for travel or other reasons as outlined in the COVID-19 Protocol.

Let’s hope Lindblom is doing okay, along with anyone else dealing with the virus.
