More drama with the Coyotes with surprising firing of assistant GM Steve Sullivan
Zuma Press

This just in, the Arizona Coyotes have announced that they've fired assistant general manager Steve Sullivan effectively immediately.

Check it out:

The full statement from the Coyotes' official website:

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Arizona Coyotes announced today that the club has terminated the contract of former Assistant General Manager and EVP of Hockey Operations Steve Sullivan.
The Coyotes will not be filling their vacant assistant general manager position this season.

More drama from a team that seems to specialize in drama these days.

You may recall that it was Sullivan who took over the franchise after former GM John Chayka was removed from his position after it was discovered he was negotiating the details of an offer from another NHL team (suspected to be the New Jersey Devils). This was hot on the heels of the Coyotes' Draft Combine scandal that cost them two 1st round draft picks.

Coyotes new GM Bill Armstrong must have seen something in the way that Sullivan went about his job that gave him serious concerns. Why else axe the guy who was the only one there trying to right the ship during the franchise's darkest era? Maybe this is some sort of indictment on Sullivan and his role under Chayka? We may never know, but the fact that the Coyotes made this move in season really tells you a lot. Moves like this almost always have some sort of "behind the scenes" story attached to them. Stay tuned for more details.
