More details emerge in tragic death of three teen hockey players

More details have emerged following the tragic accident that claimed the life of three teenage hockey players. 

Caleb Reimer, 16, Parker Magnuson, 17 and Ronin Sharma, 16, were killed when the vehicle they were in crashed into a tree early Saturday morning in British Columbia, 

The accident occurred in the 16000-block of 104th Avenue. Police and fire crews arrived at approximately 2:45 a.m., where they discovered that the trio were deceased. According to ICBC stats, there have been four collisions within a block of the accident site. Police have stated that 104th Avenue is closed between 160th Street and Fraserglen Drive in both directions.

An investigation is now underway by the RCMP’s integrated collision analysis and reconstructive service and the criminal collision investigation team.

“Our team is still actively working to determine the events leading up to the collision,” said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Vanessa Munn.

“The investigation is still in its early stages,” she said, noting that a witness was “on scene at the time police arrived.” 

“We do recognize that something like that has a great impact on the community,” Munn continued. 

Reimer was a 1st round draft selection of the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings. 

“Caleb was a young man with a bright future both on and off the ice.  He was a person that you loved to be around, he was a great teammate and a great friend,” said Oil Kings president and general manager Kirt Hill.

“We will truly miss having Caleb in our lives each and every day.  He was part of our family and will be a tremendous loss in all of our hearts.”

Sharma was on the verge of staring his rookie season with the B.C. Hockey League’s Langley Rivermen.

“We lost a young man who made each and every one of our lives better, as well as brighter, every day he came to play the game we all love,” the Rivermen said in a statement.

“Tragedies like this one deeply impact everyone involved,” said Munn. “Our sincerest condolences go out to the families of the three individuals who lost their lives this morning. Three young people lost their lives far too soon.”
