The hockey world is still coming to grips with the terrible news of the death of Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks, who perished in a fireworks-related accident while celebrating the 4th of July at goaltending coach Manny Legace's home outside of Detroit, MI. 

And now, police in Montreal are investigating an incident that was captured on video outside of Bell Centre following the Montreal Canadiens' Game 4 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final Monday night. 

The video shows an explosion in a crowd of Canadiens fans that had gathered to watch the game outside of the venue. Thousands continued to celebrate following the Habs win; Several fans set off fireworks resulting in the subsequent explosion. While no injuries have been reported, Montreal police will be using that video in their investigation.

According to Const. Raphael Bergeron, there could be charges forthcoming against whomever set off the fireworks.  

“It’s possible that charges could be laid,” said Bergeron. “The investigators are looking at possible images and what exactly happened, but at this moment I don't have further information.”

Montreal police did employ the use of tear gas on the crowd of people, whom they said not only were setting off fireworks, but throwing bottles as well. Overall, four people were arrested, while 36 tickets were issued. The arrests are said to be for alleged assaults or armed assaults against police officers.

"At the end of yesterday night, bottles were thrown and fireworks were set off in the area around the Bell Centre," police spokeswoman Anik de Repentigny wrote in an email

"The use of chemical irritants was judged necessary to disperse some recalcitrant groups."

The Canadiens and Lightning both observed a moment of silence prior to Game 4 in Kivlenieks' memory - so naturally, setting off fireworks in a large crowd of people so soon after an NHL player lost his life in a fireworks accident isn't exactly the best of looks. 

The Canadiens will look to once again stave off elimination when they meet the Lightning in Game 5 tonight at Amalie Arena, which will begin shortly after 8:00 PM EST.
