The Minnesota Wild have added depth on their blue line.

Minutes ago, they announced that they've brought aboard 34 year old free-agent defenseman Jordie Benn on a one year contract worth a reported $900,000:

Benn, who is the brother of Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn, is a veteran of 556 career games in the National Hockey League. After going undrafted, he found his way into the professional ranks with the Stars, with whom he played for seven years. He would be traded prior to the 2017 trade deadline to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Greg Pateryn and a fourth-round draft pick in 2017.

He'd sign a free-agent deal in his hometown province with the Vancouver Canucks on a two-year, $4 million pact on the first day of free-agency in 2019. He'd remain with the Canucks until last season, when he was dealt to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for a 2021 6th round selection.

He's racked up 24 goals, 103 assists and 222 PIM during the course of his career. He'll offset some of the loss of former Wild defensive stalwart Ryan Suter, who was bought out earlier this summer and subsequently signed with Benn's former team in Dallas.
