The Calgary Flames are thankful the Montreal Canadiens lost to the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night. On their end, the Flames lost their second straight game on Monday, suffering a 4-2 defeat to the all-Canadian North Division’s last-place Ottawa Senators, dropping Calgary to 4-6 in their past 10 games.

And veteran forward Milan Lucic has had enough, per TSN: “We’ve got to stop hoping and start winning some games.”

Damn right you do! Lucic is basically saying what’s on the lips of all Flames’ fans as the team still has a shot at the postseason, especially with the Canadiens dropping games and their precious advance in the division.

Calgary sits six points back of Montreal with two more games played. The two teams will face off on Friday for the first of three straight games against each other that could have a significant impact on the standings.

Lucic’s words better have had an impact on his teammates. Head coach Darryl Sutter will be working on his players until Friday as he expressed frustration with the Flames’ total of 18 giveaways on Monday night to just nine for Ottawa…

“There was three or four guys who were good players who turned the puck over several times tonight,” Sutter said post-game on Monday.
“I think their defence was a lot quicker than ours, but our defence played a really slow game.”

Come on guys. listen to Lucic and the coach.
