In case you missed it, NBC Sports announced that longtime broadcaster Mike Milbury will NOT be employed by the company moving forward and, subsequently, former NHL head coach Mike Babcock will take his place as an in-studio analyst.

Check it out:

Babcock will share analyst duties with former NHL players Anson Carter, Patrick Sharp, Ryan Callahan and Dominic Moore.

Suffice it to say that as much as Milbury's dismissal was met with cheers, Babcock's hiring was met with jeers from most hockey fans. Babcock, of course, was dismissed as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs last season and during his fallout with the team he had some pretty serious allegations hurled against him. You may recall that some current and former Leafs players, as well as players from Babcock's time coaching the Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks, stepped forward with allegations of psychological abuse against the Stanley Cup and Olympic champion coach.

Frankly, I'm kind of excited to see what kind of analysis Babcock serves up. Sure, he mostly stuck to cliches and tired tropes when dealing with the media during his coaching days, but the fact of the matter is that Babcock is an elite level coach with the ability to break down the sport like few others. I'm hopeful that he'll bring a breath of fresh air to NBC's broadcasts in 2021.
