Marc Bergevin responds to questions about his link to the Blackhawks sexual abuse scandal.

The Chicago Blackhawks are currently embroiled in a very serious scandal that has come as a result of a lawsuit filed by a former player, a player that at the time of this writing remains unnamed in that litigation, alleging that the Blackhawks ignored the inappropriate sexual conduct of video coach Brad Aldrich, even after it was brought to the attention of Blackhawks management.

The scandal is primarily centered around the Blackhawks organization but, because of how far back these incidents are alleged to have taken place, it has reached beyond the Blackhawks as well. For example former Blackhawks executive turned general manager of the Montreal Canadiens Marc Bergevin was someone that would have been considered a member of the Blackhawks management structure at the time as the team's director of player personnel. As a result of his direct ties to the Blackhawks at the time this scandal is alleged to have occurred, Bergevin was asked about the abuse during his media availability on Sunday.

To his credit Bergevin did not back down in the slightest when faced with the difficult question and instead responded with a no nonsense denial of any connection to the alleged meeting where Blackhawks management was reportedly made aware of Aldrich's behavior.

"I was not part of any meeting and I was not part of any decision and I was not aware of what was going on at the time," said Bergevin. "You can go on the record with that."

When you consider the fact that Bergevin's team is currently competing in the Stanley Cup Final it must be incredibly frustrating to have questions like this come up, especially if Bergevin is telling the truth here and had no knowledge of the events in Chicago. That being said multiple former Blackhawks have now gone on the record with comments on this matter, and their words have not been flattering for Blackhawks management at the time.

Both Brent Sopel, a former player with the Blackhawks at the time, and John Torchetti, an associate coach with the team at the time, have made public comments over the weekend that would appear to corroborate the accusations being brought against the Blackhawks in this matter.
