Marc-Andre Fleury and Robin Lehner win 2021 William M. Jennings Trophy

The Vegas Golden Knights (40-14-2) are cruising into the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs, thanks in large part to their stellar goaltending. 

The tandem of Marc-Andre Fleury and Robin Lehner gave up a combined 124 goals, good for fewest in the National Hockey League. And the pair are now being officially recognized for their accomplishments. 

They've won the William Jennings Trophy, awarded to the “goaltender(s) having played a minimum of 25 games for the team with the fewest goals scored against it” in the regular season.

For the veteran Fleury, it was the top statistical season of his future Hall of Fame career. The man known as "Flower" posted a sparkling record of 26-10-0 with a superb 1.98 goals-against average, .928 save percentage and six shutouts. Oh, and he'll be finishing the season with a nine-game winning streak. His 19 save shutout on Wednesday night against the San Jose Sharks was the 67th of his career, meaning that he's now passed his boyhood idol Patrick Roy on the NHL's all-time shutout list and is now in 15th place. 

Not bad, eh? 

Meanwhile, Lehner posted a strong record of his own, going 13-4-2 in 19 starts with a 2.29 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and one shutout. 

"For me, hands down the best goalie tandem in the league," Vegas coach Peter DeBoer exclaimed after tonight's game. 

"I don't think I've ever come close in my career to getting it," Fleury joked of the award. "Obviously the players in front did a great job blocking a lot of shots. Robin had a great season too - it's an honor to get that trophy." 

Did he and his crease partner talk about potentially winning the honor? 

"We talked about it," he said. "We didn't want to make too much a big deal about it, but it came up."

The opponent and schedule for Vegas and their 4th straight trip to the playoffs has yet to be determined. Of course, their stellar efforts during the regular season should set the stage for another playoff run. 

"It's something we've talked about and something coach has talked about the past few games here," Fleury said. "Just trying to have good habits and keep pushing and doing the right things so that when the playoffs start, we don't need to be scrambling to get back to our game. I think everyone has been battling hard the past few, and again tonight, this game didn't being anything for San Jose, but our guys played good for 60 minutes and got the win."
