It is no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs need to upgrade their goaltending situation, especially with Frederik Andersen testing the free agency waters on Wednesday. There are talks that he has actually come to an agreement with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported that general manager Kyle Dubas had more than one option to get a veteran goalie in between his pipes, as Darren Dreger and Pierre LeBrun report that six targets have been established by the Maple Leafs on their shopping list. According to the insiders, Dubas was looking at Philipp Grubauer, Petr Mrazek, Joonas Korpisalo, Linus Ullmark, Braden Holtby and Martin Jones believed to among the goalies of interest in Toronto.

But then, Kevin Weekes of NHLNetwork revealed that the Maple Leafs are expected to sign Mrazek to a three-year contract once market opens. It will be a three-year deal at $3.8 million annually.

The Leafs need a partner for Jack Campbell they can trust and the team is still trying to establish if he can a No. 1 or 1A. And for how many games in a full season? Because Campell has played more than 40 games in a season TWICE in his professional career…

In 12 appearances with the Hurricanes during the regular season, Mrazek posted an outstanding .923 save percentage and three shutouts. The team did decide to go with Nedeljkovic over Mrazek in the playoffs though, but the Canes ended up trading Nedeljkovic, so that meant nothing. Mrazek has a 50-32-8 record with a 2.48 GAA and .911 save percentage. He missed a big chunk of the 2021 season with injury, but finished the year with a 2.06 GAA.
