The Toronto Maple Leafs are opening training camp on Monday and general manager Kyle Dubas is making final touches to his roster in order to be ready for the 2021 season and also comply to the flattened salary cap restrictions.

On Friday, the Maple Leafs place defenseman  David Warsofsky, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

The 30-year-old was part of the trade that saw top forward Kasperi Kapanen heading back to the Pittsburgh Penguins back in August. Kapanen, along with  Jesper Lindgren and Pontus Aberg, were traded to Pittsburgh in return of a first round pick in 2020, which turned out to be Rodion Amirov, Filip Hallander, Evan Rodrigues and Warsofsky.

The blue liner has been on the move quite a bit ever since he was selected in the fourth round, 95th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2008 NHL Draft. He played for the Boston Bruins, Penguins, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche, putting up a total of two goals and 11 points in 55 NHL games.

He did not suit for the Maple Leafs yet, and might not get the chance.

Teams have 24 hours to make a claim, and there is no provision at all to account for cross-border travel or isolation requirements. You claim, you might wait a long time to see the player.

Let’s see where Warsofsky ends up next.
