The Toronto Maple Leafs made what we described as a risky move on Sunday and it has not paid off.

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, the Toronto Maple Leafs have lost forward Travis Boyd after placing him on waivers yesterday, Although we don't know how many teams put in a claim for the veteran forward we do know that he will now be joining the Vancouver Canucks, a Canadian rival.

The move was clearly made for cap reasons, but nonetheless the Leafs have now lost a player that was really earning his keep as part of the organizations fourth line. Boyd had made 20 appearances for the Leafs this season and although he is clearly a bottom 6 forward he has played well. During those 20 appearances he collected 3 goals and 5 assists for a combined 8 points, just 2 penalty minutes, and currently boasts a plus minus rating of 1 on the season.

Boyd also quickly endeared himself to the Maple Leafs faithful by being a useful contributor on the 4th line as the team battled injuries, however with the team getting healthy he had found himself scratched and on the sidelines as of late and that no doubt also contributed to the decision to place him on waivers.
