There were many who thought the Maple Leafs stood a good chance of losing centerman Adam Brooks if they placed him on waivers prior to the start of the regular season, and unfortunately for the Maple Leafs those predictions have proven to be accurate.

On Sunday the Maple Leafs made the difficult decision of placing Brooks on waivers as they trimmed down to their final roster ahead of their season opener against the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday. That decision from Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas and his team has now led to Brooks landing on a Canadian rival.

National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman reports that the Montreal Canadiens have successfully claimed Brooks off of waivers, making the 25 year old native of Winnipeg, Manitoba property of the Habs, at least for now.
