Malkin out with mystery injury as Penguins await “more definitive information”

Evgeni Malkin was absent on Thursday morning at the Pittsburgh Penguins’ game-day skate, two days after he left a game against the Boston Bruins following a hard hit from defenseman Jarred Tinordi.

During Tuesday’s contest, the star player turned a corner in the offensive zone, when he was blindsided by a taller Tinordi, who sent him on the ice. Geno was slow to make his way to the bench and then headed down the tunnel. He returned for a single power-play shift, but then went right back into the dressing room.

He missed the remainder of the game and now, he won’t suit up for tonight’s contest against the New Jersey Devils.

When asked about Malkin’s injury and the potential length of his absence, head coach Mike Sullivan gave an answer that worried fans even more stating: “Geno is continuing to be evaluated. We hope to have more definitive information over the next day or so. I’ll update you when we get it.”

That does not sound good...

It seems like even the Penguins have no clue what’s happening with their star player and how long they will be without his services. Malkin was placed on the team's injured reserve later on Thursday.

There is no doubt that the Pens’ depth at center will be tested, especially since they are already planning to be without regular third-line center Teddy Blueger ,who is out longer-term with an upper-body injury and was also placed on injured reserve.
