The New York Islanders have placed forward Leo Komarov on waivers on Friday. This is the second time this year the veteran forward has tasted the wire…

The 34-year-old cleared just before the season began, but the team needed to reset his clock in order to have the ability to place him on the taxi squad. Once a player clears, they must go through the waiver process again after spending 30 days on the active roster or playing in ten NHL games. Komarov only spent one day of the last month on the taxi squad, meaning his time was about to be up.

Komarov has zero points in six games this season. He has one year remaining after this season on his current contract with a $3 million cap hit.

The veteran player was quite appreciated as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, before he signed as a free agent with the Isles.

In 463 career NHL games, Komarov has 62 goals and 162 points split between the Islanders and the Leafs. He was named to the NHL All-Star Game back in 2016.

He now has issues proving the Islanders he can crack their roster and be a helpful hand up front…
