The Buffalo Sabres won't ever sound the same again.

Earlier this weekend, legendary Sabres broadcaster Rick Jeanneret announced that the upcoming campaign would be his final behind the microphone:

"To spend 50 years doing any one job is more than a person can ask for, let alone one as special as mine. My interactions with the fans at KeyBank Center have been one of the thrills of my career, one that was sorely missing over the past year. So let's make it 51. I look forward to seeing you at the rink for one last run."

Jeanneret, 79, is entering his 51st season as a Sabres broadcaster. He got his start in the 2nd season in Sabres history, calling games on the radio.

"I can't imagine that I would've done anything else with my life. I can't think of another occupation. I can't think of another city. I can't think of another sport," he said. "I think that the Buffalo Sabres and RJ were meant for each other."

Jeanneret, who overcame stage 3 throat cancer that required him to miss part of the 2014-15 season, will be calling limited games this year. According to Mark Preisler, the executive vice president of Pegula Sports and Entertainment, Jeanneret will be behind the microphone for 20 of the 82 games on the schedule, and all of them played at home at KeyBank Center.

Meanwhile, Dan Dunleavy will be taking on a larger role in his 9th season as a broadcaster with the team.
