The trade deadline is now eight away and it sounds like the Toronto Maple Leafs are getting more agressive on the market. There have already been tons of rumours about trades the Leafs might make as Elliotte Friedman previously reported that Toronto is keeping a close eye on what’s happening with the Nashville Predators.

It sounds like most teams around the league is aware that Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas is interested in forward Mikael Granlund who will no doubt be available if the Predators continue to drop games. Darren Dreger reported the latest in the Leafs’ plan to land Granlund during last night’s edition of Insider Trading:

“Management would like to bolster their forward group. Look, if you go back two weeks ago they weren’t certain that’s what they would do, but they would like to give this group a little bit more depth and firepower. Particularly in the middle of the lineup, there has been some speculation about Mikael Granlund of the Nashville Predators. Could there be a fit moving forward between David Poile and Kyle Dubas, well perhaps, if the Nashville Predators are willing to retain some salary. Look, Toronto has the prospects, and if necessary have the draft picks to make something like that happen. As long as the Leafs continue to win, then I know Dubas is going to try and bolster the group up front.”

The Leafs have the prospects and draft picks to make a deal like that happen. They just need a hand from the Predators to retain some of Granlund’s salary to get this trade down and official.

This might not take that long to get done. Stay tuned…
