Leafs abruptly change lineup for tonight’s game despite earlier news

On Monday, Toronto Maple Leafs hinted at the fact that forward William Nylander could be taken out of Tuesday night’s game’s lineup against the Vancouver Canucks after he showed up late for a meeting. Chris Johnston of Sportsnet had in fact hinted that the Leafs were leaning toward holding the 24-year-old out of the game for disciplinary reasons.

However a couple of hours prior to the contest, the Leafs changed their lineup to include Nylander as head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed that he would play tonight. Nylander just returned from a five-game absence after he self-reported a brief meeting with someone who later showed symptoms of having COVID-19.

Nylander, who self-isolated and tested negative for nine straight days before returning to the lineup Sunday in Vancouver, scored a goal and logged 21 minutes in the 3-2 overtime loss to the Canucks.

We bet it was hard for the Maple Leafs to imagine getting on the ice against the Canucks without Nylander and decided that a win was more important than sending him a message of discipline.

He has tallied 14 goals and 18 assists in 40 games on the season.

This is what we know from the Leafs for tonight's game vs. the Canucks:
