Kraken steals Philipp Grubauer from Avalanche!

The free agency market opened a few hours and the Colorado Avalanche still didn't have star goalie Philipp Grubauer under contract.

That was a huge mistake.

Earlier this month, the netminder himself admitted that he “one-hundred percent” wanted to re-sign with the Avalanche. However on Wednesday, the Seattle Kraken got into the mix, made him changed his mind and signed him.

NHL Network’s Kevin Weekes, who was present at the Kraken’s expansion draft, first reported that Seattle was gaining some traction on Grubauer to get him to sign a deal with the new expansion team.

Moments later, it was announced that the Kraken has inked the free-agent goalie to a six-year contract, at a $5.9 AAV.

Grubauer turned in an incredible season this year and was a Vezina Trophy finalist. He recorded a 30-9-1 record alongside a .922 save percentage and 1.95 goals-against average. Fans expected him to stay in Colorado as GM Joe Sakic managed to re-sign captain Gabriel Landeskog to a long-term deal, the focus shifted to Grubauer.

Grubauer inked a three-year contract carrying an average annual value of $3.33 million with the Avalanche after winning the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals as a backup goalie in 2018.

And now he gets a new deal with the new team!
