The Minnesota Wild have a ton on their hands this offseason and how they choose to navigate these next few weeks and months could drastically alter the trajectory of the Wild franchise moving forward.

We reported earlier today on the rumblings that superstar rookie Kirill Kaprizov had reportedly rejected a pair of big time offers from the Wild and now comes news that the Wild and general manager Bill Guerin may also be having a difficult time in negotiations with dynamic forward Kevin Fiala, a pending restricted free agent much like the aforementioned Kaprizov.

The news comes courtesy of Minnesota Wild insider Mike Russo who recently revealed that he believes Fiala is seeking big time dollars from the Wild on his next deal, and quite likely is seeking as much term as he can get on a new deal as well. In fact it sounds like the demands from Fiala have been so significant that Bill Guerin has likely already had conversations with other teams about the possibility of orchestrating a trade for the talented forward, this in spite of how productive he has been for the Wild.

"I think he's sitting there and wanting big time money," said Russo on the DFO podcast. "I think he wants term and money. I don't know if the Wild want to go long term with him, I would really doubt it, they've always wanted to go four to five years max with him. But I think he wants serious money, I think he's looking at more than 7 [million] and maybe even 8 [million]."

It sounds like Fiala is expecting the big dollars to come rolling in as he has made a significant change behind the scenes, firing his former agent and moving to a new agency ahead of this negotiation.

"He has hired Craig Oster from Newport and let go Claude Lemieux after the bridge deal and that to me is the sign of somebody that expects to be paid handsomely and I think he wants to be the man here," added Russo.

Interestingly enough Fiala's big time demands sound like they could end up with him traded to another market, especially if he can bring in the kind of return Bill Guerin is seeking.

"There's gonna have to be something to give and I do genuinely believe that Billy has at least dangled Fiala's name out there to see if he is the type of player that can maybe earn this team a #1 or #2 center and we'll see where that goes," said Russo.

Lots of uncertainty here, but Russo sure sounds like a man who believes Fiala could soon be gone.

"My gut says Fiala is looking to hit a home run contact and I don't know if Billy Guerin can stomach that," concluded the insider.

Stay tuned as this could be a truly wild offseason for the Minnesota Wild.
