After months of not knowing what was happening with Jonathan Toews, the Chicago Blackhawks captain took to social media and shared a video explained what has been going with him and why he missed the entire 2021 season.

“I just think there was a lot of things that just kinda pilled up and my body just fell apart, and so what they’re calling it is Chronic Immune Response Syndrome, where I just couldn’t quite recover. My immune system was reacting to everything, to any kind of stress, anything that I would do throughout the day, was always kind of like a stress response."

Back in December, Toews had announced that he had been “experiencing symptoms that have left me feeling drained and lethargic” and didn’t have a timetable for a return to action.

In the video he posted on social media on Wednesday morning, he explained how frustrated he was to have to take the time to rest and not knowing when he could get back on the ice.

Finally, in the footage, we can see that Toews has gone back on the ice, is skating and looks healthy. He took the time to thank everyone that has supported him though this tough situation and appreciates how fans, insiders and pundits were patient with him. He is always grateful for his teammates and the organization that supported him.

He admits that he was not vocal about what was happening to him, but needed the privacy to focus on getting better to get back to what he loves to do. He keeps thanking the fans and cannot wait to be back playing in front of them. He is hoping to be back next season.

Toews is back training in Chicago, and this is more than just a great hockey news. We are so glad to know that Toews is better, because, as he says, there is more to life than just hockey.

"There's more to life than hockey. But I'm excited to get back to the United Center to play ... I think my best is going to come through."
