The Winnipeg Jets pulled off a huge midseason trade on Saturday when they dealt star forward Patrik Laine and restricted free agent Jack Roslovic to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for that team's number one center in Pierre Luc Dubois and a third round draft selection.

It was a risky move on the part of general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff and unfortunately for the Jets there's a good chance they won't get to utilize their new star for several games. That is due to the fact Dubois, who is Canadian, has been playing in the United States of America and anyone traveling from the U.S. into Canada must be subjected to a 14 day quarantine. This means that Dubois could miss a whopping 7 games and in a shortened season that could easily make the difference between making or missing the playoffs.

Thankfully it seems like the Jets are fully aware of this and are now looking to do everything in their power in order to get Dubois into their lineup as soon as humanly possible. Things started with Dubois flying into Winnipeg on a private flight, a move that according to Cheveldayoff is within the bounds of the National Hockey League's COVID protocols, and they are hoping that this will also allow them to put Dubois into an expedited quarantine process.

During an interview on Hockey Night in Canada with host Ron MacLean, Cheveldayoff revealed that the team was hoping to get clearance for a 7 day quarantine given the extra steps they have been taking but whether or not that will work out the way the Jets are hoping remains to be seen. I do not anticipate the Canadian government will make the exception unless they feel 100% certain about the outcome, for example if Dubois has recently undergone testing as part of the league's COVID protocol those results could be used to rush him through the process. Even in the event of Dubois being able to provide evidence of that nature however the Canadian government is still well within their rights to refuse which would result in Dubois having to sit out the full 14 day quarantine period.

Sounds like Dubois could be in the lineup sooner than expected, but only time will tell if the Jets get their way.
