Jaroslav Halak is leaving the Boston Bruins.

Over the past three seasons the Boston Bruins have benefitted from a very solid goaltending tandem with starting goaltender Tuukka Rask and veteran netminder Jaroslav Halak forming a rather impressive duo. That will end this season however as is has now officially been confirmed that Halak and the Bruins will be parting ways in the offseason.

The Boston Globe's Matt Porter is reporting that Halak's agent, Allan Walsh, confirmed that the two parties would be going their separate ways while adding that his client is healthy and is expecting to draw interest from rival organizations come the opening of free agency on the 28th of July. 

Halak has been a very good backup for the Bruins, often stepping into the starters role at times for a variety of reasons, and appeared in a total of 90 NHL games for the organization during his three seasons in Boston. There's a good chance that he will draw interest from teams looking to add a veteran backup, although he has shown throughout his career that he can be a starting goaltender when necessary.

Halak's most recent seasons with the Bruins saw him post his weakest numbers, but that may be a symptom of him also playing by far the fewest number of games in a season he had since joining the Bruins. Over 19 games he registered a 2.53 goals against average and a .905 save percentage.

In fact there's a case to be made that the more Halak gets the net the better he tends to play. His first season with the Bruins saw him play his highest total of games with 40 appearances in which he recorded a 2.34 goals against average and a .922 save percentage. The following year he played 9 fewer games and saw his numbers dip slightly to a 2.39 goals against average and a .919 save percentage.

Halak is coming off a one year deal in which he carried a cap hit of $2.25 million per season, and I believe he will be looking for a similar type of deal when he hits the open market on July 28th.

During his NHL tenure Halak has accumulated 539 games under his belt, a 2.49 career goals against average and a .916 career save percentage.
