The Buffalo Sabres have had a very public falling out with superstar forward Jack Eichel and, although there has been no indication on the part of the Sabres that they are willing to trade Eichel, there has already been plenty of talk around the league about the possibility of him being traded.

The latest on the trading Eichel front comes from none other than Buffalo Sabres insider John Vogl who, in a recently published article in The Athletic, laid out what can only be described as a blockbuster trade proposal. As you would expect from anyone who covers the Sabres, Vogl's expectation if Eichel is traded is that the team will get a king's ransom in return for the former first round pick. That being said this proposal, which would see Eichel traded to the Calgary Flames, may be one that fans in Calgary find a little too rich for their liking.

Here's how the proposal from Vogl breaks down.

To the Calgary Flames:

Jack Eichel

To the Buffalo Sabres:

Matthew Tkachuk

Connor Zary

First round draft pick

There's no doubt that Eichel is a very talented forward but I do wonder how well the idea of trading Matthew Tkachuk would go over with fans in Calgary. Tkachuk's hard nose style of play has rapidly won over the hearts of the Flames fan base and quite honestly it has made him one of the league's most entertaining players over the past several NHL seasons.

Although your average fan may not be familiar with Connor Zary just yet, the 19 year old Centerman is the Flames first round pick (24th overall) at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He's coming off a solid season with the Western Hockey League's Kamloops Blazers, recording 6 goals and 18 assists for 24 points over 15 games.

Add another first round pick to the mix and the ask here is effectively 3 first round draft selections for Jack Eichel, a heavy price but one that likely will be in the ballpark of what the Sabres are looking for if they do indeed seek to move Eichel during the offseason.

Would you pay the price if you're the Flames? Or is the cost of this trade proposal a little too steep for your liking?
