The Boston Bruins have taken an early lead in their second round series against the New York Islanders in this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs, but in spite of a big win in Game 1 the Bruins are currently without a number of important players on their roster.

On Sunday head coach Bruce Cassidy spoke to the media and was able to provide an update on several of the players that the Bruins currently have sidelined due to injury, and unfortunately there wasn't a great deal of good news to go around. One of the big questions was around the health of veteran forward Craig Smith who left the third period of Game 1 with an injury and did not return, and in this case Cassidy effectively made it known that Smith will be a game time decision.

"He's here today getting treatment, so we won't know," admitted Cassidy on Sunday. "It's an optional today...we'll give him a shot in the morning if he's able to. I'll have a better update then. Right now, not much for you until we see him on the ice tomorrow."

The Bruins have also been without the services of defenseman Kevan Miller and when he was asked about Miller's status, Cassidy confirmed that he would not be ready to go for Game 2 and added that he had not skated with his teammates during Sunday's optional practice.

"I don't believe he went out with our taxi squad so no," said Cassidy. "Won't be available tomorrow."

There was also some concern regarding the availability of Matt Grzelcyk following Game 1 against the Islanders after he took a big hit courtesy of Islanders forward Leo Komarov during that game. Thankfully in this case the news appeared to be good with Cassidy indicating that he expects Grzelcyk will be available for Game 2.

"Grz was in for treatment and obviously finished the game so he looks good, so we'll be fine on the back end" said Cassidy.

Given the injuries the Bruins are dealing with on the blue line that is obviously very good news. For a full breakdown of all Cassidy's answers you can hear the coach in his own words in the short clip below provided courtesy of the Boston Bruins.
