The NHL season is drawing ever closer with each passing day and with each passing day we are also seeing a huge number of players hit the waiver wire as teams around the league gradually trim down their rosters. Eventually we will get down to the opening night roster for each and every team around the league, but until then we are likely to continue seeing big days of waiver activity like today.

There were a number of teams who were very active today with the Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks, Tampa Bay Lightning and Calgary Flames, all putting a significant number of players on the roster but they were far from the only teams. We expect that every team will be busy with waivers in the coming week and a half before the start of the season, the question now of course is will any of today's waived players end up on a new roster by tomorrow?

Here is the full list of players waived earlier today:

Trevor Carrick (Anaheim Ducks)
