We unfortunately have some terrible news to share with you this evening.

A horribly tragedy has struck New York Islanders goaltender Cory Schneider, with a GoFundMe started by Jill Schneider reporting that the veteran netminder has lost his 14 year old nephew Theodore Hedstrom. Obviously the loss of anyone is always a terrible tragedy, but in this case with Theodore being so young it is impossible to imagine what the family is going through.

According to the GoFundMe published by Jill, on the night of February 24th the house that Theodore was in caught fire and was completely consumed by the fire, taking with it Theodore and all of the families things and belongings. So not only has the family lost a loved one at a very young age, but there's also a very good chance that many of the memories they had made with Theodore were also lost to the fire.

The family has asked for help from anyone who can afford to give in this difficult time.

"We are asking anyone who would like to contribute something financially to the family to help the numerous costs of medical bills, and recreating a life and a sense of normalcy for the family, as well as memorializing Theodore," wrote Jill via the GoFundMe. "Theodore was a shining light in the lives of everyone who knew him and he will be greatly missed. Nothing will be able to fill the incredible void left by his departure, but anything that could be given to help with all of the other items would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and god bless"

Although there is no way anyone can possibly make up for this terrible loss, I am happy to report that once again the amazing goodwill of strangers has come through and provided the family with some much needed support. At the time of this writing the family had already raised a whopping $90,000 of their $150,000 goal, with donations still pouring in every couple of minutes.

Life has been hard enough on everyone as of late, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the Connors, Hedstrom and Schneider families and to anyone else who has been impacted by this horrible event.
