Everyone in Minnesota was excited back in September when the Wild finally inked star forward Kirill Kaprizov to a five-year, $45 million contract. It wasn’t always easy, but GM Bill Guerin managed to convince the rookie to stick to Minnesota on a five-year deal, as the team compromised on terms with the hope that Kaprizov would do the same on annual salary.

But the kid might have compromised on his shape too…

During training on ice, camera caught Wild head coach Dean Evason talking to Kaprizov, who appeared out of breath after a drill.

He then tells him he looks fat, as Kaprizov brushes it off, telling him to “say what he wants.”

The two men laugh it off but it sounds like Evason is serious which has Wild fans wondering how in shape Kaprizov is for the start of the 2021-22 season. Maybe the kid focused on contract negotiations a little too much and forgot about diet and training.

Check it out:

The Wild and its fanbase are expecting a lot from Kaprizov. After all, the Calder winner led rookies in goals (27), points (51), power-play goals (eight) and shots on goal (157) in 55 games. He was second in even-strength points (38) and power-play points (13) and was tied for third in plus/minus rating (plus-10). On top of that, he led Wild in goals, points, points per game (0.93) and overtime goals (two), and scored three game-winning goals. Kaprizov, who averaged 18:18 of ice time per game and had a shooting percentage of 17.2 percent, scored the most goals, assists and points by a rookie in Wild history.
