Hawks provide another weird update on Jonathan Toews

More is said on his health but…

We have been without any news from Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews ever since he said he had been “experiencing symptoms that have left me feeling drained and lethargic” back in December. There is no timetable for his return.

Thankfully, we saw a bit of him when he took part in the celebration for his teammate Patrick Kane’ 1000th NHL game in a video, but not enough to determine how he’s doing. Following a swarms of unfounded rumors on social media that the team knew more about Toews and why he couldn’t play, the Blackhawks responded to the chatter by insisting that the circumstances of Toews’ medical absence remain the same as before.

Finally, general manager Stan Bowman spoke on the “Blackhawks Insider” podcast March 19 and offered this update on his captain:

“I don’t have much of an update,” Bowman said. “He’s obviously not back with us, so he’s not really ready to play hockey, but he seems in good spirits and I know he’s liking watching the team and the way we’ve come out to start the season. For the most part, it’s been all positive. I’m in the same category as everyone: We want him to be feeling great, not only to help our team but just to be back to himself. I don’t think he’s not quite there yet but hopefully he will be soon.”

Chicago keeps fighting for a playoff spot and you have to admit no one expected them to be in contention when the season kicked off, not only without Toews in the lineup, but also without rookie Kirby Dach and a top goalie in between the pipes.

However, the Hawks aren’t giving up and maybe fans shouldn’t give up either of the chance of seeing Toews return soon.
