The Montreal Canadiens lost Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final against the Tampa Bay Lightning, but at least, they didn’t lose forward Brendan Gallagher.

Fans were afraid of what the veteran had suffered in the third period of the first contest, as he found himself without a helmet after the whistle. Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev slammed him in the ice, with his head connecting directly with the ice surface.

Gallagher got back up on his own powers and left the ice to be attended by a trainer, with streams of blood draping his face. He did not return before the end of the game, which the Bolts won 5-1.

This could’ve been a lot worse, and luckily Gallagher escaped without serious injury. Interim head coach Luke Richardson confirmed that his forward would be in the lineup for Game 2 despite looking awfully bad.

“He doesn’t look great. His face is a bit of a roadmap right now…”

Fans were upset to find out that the NHL Player Safety fined Canadiens captain Shea Weber $5,000 for his slash on Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov, but did nothing when it came to Segachev’s actions.

He too is expected to be on the ice for Game 2 on Wednesday night.
