Golden Knights cut ties with prospect Hakkarainen, giving them exactly nothing in return for Marc Andre Fleury

Literally just giving away the Vezina Trophy winner for nothing. How does this make sense?

The Vegas Golden Knights have officially cut ties with prospect Mikael Hakkarainen, the only player received in last month's shocking trade with the Chicago Blackhawks that saw reigning Vezina Trophy winning goaltender Marc Andre Fleury shipped out of Vegas.

Check it out:

If you're keeping score at home that means that Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon has acquired exactly NOTHING in return for Fleury, a star goaltender and fan favorite. Insane.

The argument, of course, is that Vegas freed up $7 million in cap space by offloading Fleury's contract but then McCrimmon went out and added $7.3 million to the books by signing backup goaltender Laurent Brossoit and by trading for forward Evgeni Dadonov. So... was it worth it? Who would you rather have? A Vezina Trophy candidate and one of the most beloved players in the entire NHL or a backup goalie and a guy who put up 20 points last season? Tough call...
