Unfortunately, there is even more tragic news to report out of the world of hockey.

Former NHL player Jimmy Hayes, a Boston College graduate who would suit up for the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, New Jersey Devils and Florida Panthers, died unexpectedly on Monday morning at the young age of 31. According to police, the cause death of death has yet to be determined, but isn't considered suspicious.

“Boston College Hockey is heartbroken over the passing of Jimmy Hayes,” Hayes’ hometown alma mater said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Hayes family.”

Hayes appeared in 334 games in the NHL for four teams. He scored a total of 54 goals and 109 points for the Blackhawks, Panthers, Bruins, and Devils. Since last playing professionally, Hayes had cohosted a podcast with fellow former NHLers Shane O’Brien and Scottie Upshall called “Missin Curfew".

Hayes is survived by his wife Kristen and two young boys, as well as his younger brother, Kevin, who currently plays for the Flyers.
