This just in, the Philadelphia Flyers have "mutually parted ways" with Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL) head coach Scott Gordon. Gordon's assistant Kerry Huffman has also stepped down from his position with the team.

Check it out:

"I would like to thank Scott and Kerry for their service to the organization," said Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher in a prepared statement on the Flyers' official website. "Both Scott and Kerry have dedicated their time and effort in developing Flyers prospects and bringing success to Lehigh Valley over the last several years. In speaking with each of them, we felt this was best for the future direction of the organization."

Gordon, of course, was the Flyers' interim-head coach during the 2018-19 season before Fletcher hired current Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault. I wouldn't be surprised if Gordon has received interest from some NHL teams given his body of work in the AHL, but with Fletcher throwing his support behind Vigneault last week it's clear that there's no future in the Flyers organization for Gordon.

Still, with no heir apparent in the AHL and with the support of Fletcher, I can't help but feel like Vigneault and his staff are on shaky ground. The Flyers woefully underperformed this season and Vigneault shoulders a lot of the blame for it. Don't be surprised if Fletcher goes back on his word and makes more coaching changes this offseason.
