Calgary Flames top prospect Connor Zary had to be helped off the ice this evening in his team's training camp rookie game against the Edmonton Oilers after blocking a point shot blast with what appeared to be his upper ankle.

Here's the play in question and the aftermath:

That's... that's gotta hurt.

Zary left the ice with some help and it's presumed he won't return this evening.

It's a tough break for a kid who is looking to make a big impression on the team this training camp. The 19 year old forward was selected by the Flames in the 1st round (24th overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft but failed to really show what he's made of to the team last year due to the shortened schedule. Heading into this season the former Kamloops Blazers star had been hoping to force the team's hand and earn himself a spot with the big club. It's worth noting also that he put up an impressive three goals and seven points in a nine game stint with the Flames AHL affiliate Stockton Heat last season. Here's hoping this injury is nothing serious and Zary can continue to showcase his talent this training camp and preseason.
